phpBB Weekly #094: Anything Goes with the Spokane Clan

On this non-live “Anything Goes” episode, Douglas is joined by the “Spokane Clan”–David Lewis, Francis Lewis (Handyman), and Michael Williams (mtotheikle). They’re all from Spokane, all bigwigs on StarTrekGuide, and are all celebrating the retirement of phpBB2 while Douglas continues mourning it. [...]

PHPBB And WordPress

In this episode, David and I chatted about a number of subjects including:

  • WordPress User Interface History
  • BBPress
  • PHPBB3
  • The possibilities of the WordPress team working with PHPBB to develope a bridge between the two (!!!??!!)
  • Security of PHPBB3 and WordPress

(please note … it’s written phpBB, not in that shouting way)

Tocqueville.

Captcha

Hi,

since spam has an implicit cost in DB space, I’ve added a further protection layer. It’s a captcha and it shows before comment form. So the spam able to bypass it will be caught by other system and then if even that fails it will be kicked out in another way. And if some legit comment is classified as spam, well … it will be easier recovering it.

We’re sorry for the little additional annoyance, but we are confident that no huge troubles will be generated by it ;) .

Blog upgraded to latest 2.6.0

Yep, continue upgrades is the destiny WP users chose if they abandoned the legacy 2.0.x line.

The site went offline for some minutes to upgrade from 2.5.1 to 2.6

Nothing special, except a little mess with config file (fixed after a quick search).

This ’cause if you don’t want to see your database size duplicated due to the dreadful history hassle (AKA feature) (more…)
